I’ll be the first to admit the last several weeks haven’t been easy for me. I’ve suffered the most horrible string of migraines I’ve ever faced, with seemingly no end in sight. I’ve dealt with a new, yet old pain that I had hoped never to face again which brings with it a probability I don’t look forward to and yet do at the same time. At this moment, the future is uncertain and yet is full of possibilities, and before I can explain that, I need to give a bit of a history lesson.
In April 2004, I had a tubal done. It wasn’t long after that, having been off birth control since the surgery, I began to experience intense pain in my left side—pain so severe it made walking quite painful and difficult. Back to the doctor we go. The doctor wanted to do exploratory surgery and I only agreed on the condition he would do the hysterectomy I wanted when the tubal was done yet the doctors refused to do because of my age. I was 28 at the time. Reluctantly, he agreed, mainly because I have four children.
In October 2004, I went in for the exploratory surgery and partial hysterectomy and we discovered I had a rather severe case of endometriosis. It was bad enough scar tissue had already began to form, which was part of the problem causing me pain when I walked. It appears the birth control was keeping it in check and when I went off it, all hell literally broke loose with my insides. Now, here we are in 2010 and it’s back with a vengeance. The only problem is, from what I’ve read, exploratory surgery is the only way to accurately diagnose this problem, but at least when they go in and find it, they can zap it while in there. I just detest the thought of another surgery.
So, I’m being referred to not one specialist but two. Obviously, an OBGYN is one, and the other is a neurologist for that outbreak of sudden, severe, and quite intense migraines I’ve been suffering since January. For some reason, the word MRI keeps echoing in my head. Can I just say how much I hate those things? I’ve already been through one on my lower back before I was diagnosed with the Fibro and now I face another one on the head for the headaches. The joys of being me. *sigh*
I think the worst thing about facing another possible surgery is the down time it’ll enforce. I have enough problems as it is, and being sore from having my insides poked around doesn’t exactly give me a warm, fuzzy feeling. I have edits I’m waiting on. I have another book under consideration, that if accepted, will have edits to go through. I have other books I’m working on, and surgery will set me back by weeks, provided no complications arise like they did the last time. I know, I tend to worry too much, but it’s a character flaw and one I can’t seem to help. I’m a planner when it comes to life, though funny enough, that doesn’t seem to carry over to my writing. I can’t plot a book worth shit, and if I do manage to plot it out, I can never seem to bring myself to actually write the thing because it feels like I’ve already written it. Funny how that works out.
Now on to things a bit less dire and dramatic. I have to say, I LOVE my new iPod Touch. I got a nifty little zipper case for it last night on sale at Target for $2 and some change. It fits perfectly in there and has a card holder built inside. I know, iPod Touch doesn’t use memory cards, but I always carry my reader with it and could put an extra card of books (I use small memory cards) in the iPod’s case for my reader. Two birds, one stone kind of thing. I’m still loving my reader, too, which I’m getting more use for now that I’m slowly bringing hubby around to the idea of buying my books in electronic format. I’ve long since run out of room for storing paperback/hardcover books around here. In fact, I think I have more dresser drawers full of books than I do of clothes. Sad, really.
I also got my new purse last night. The one I’ve been drooling over for the last two weeks. It’s bright yellow and very roomy. I LOVE IT. In fact, it’s hanging on the closet door in the hallway and every time I walk by, I just have to stop and run my hand over it. It’s so soft and feels so nice. My little sister saw my purse last night when I went to drop off a gift for a cousin’s baby shower this weekend since my husband is working that day and I can’t attend. She wanted my purse, but she can’t have it. I begged for that thing for two weeks before my husband caved and it was the last one that color in the store. If she wants one, she can go buy her own. Her parting words? I want it when you’re done with it. As if I ever willingly part with a purse. She obviously doesn’t know me very well.
While in the mall, we went into Victoria’s Secret, which we don’t do very often. Sadly, they didn’t have what I was looking for, however, I think I did embarrass the 8y/o man child by dragging him in there. He wasn’t thrilled with our location and was quite vocal about it. He’s so funny. At least this time, he didn’t yell at me, quite loudly, not to steal anything. Think that could be because I threatened to wring his neck if he ever dared to do that again? I still have no idea why he did that to me when all I was doing was looking at a purse. Little snot. I can’t describe how embarrassed I was when he did that.
The great app search is on. I have tossed far more than I’ve kept on the iPod Touch so far. I did find a great little app called Documents 2 that I’m using for my write files. Best part? Full version was on sale for $1.99. It will read my .Pages files though if I want to be able to edit the file, I have to convert it to text, which isn’t that big a deal. I like carrying all my current WIPs around with me so if I find myself with time to spare, I can open it up and tinker with it, even if I write new stuff out by hand. Documents 2 will even read the PDF of the H4H series bible, so woohoo on that, though I do have the chopped up pieces on there, too. Makes it easier to find specific info in the chopped up bits, though I have the whole in there because some parts I was too lazy to cut out.
I also narrowed it down to about six baby name list apps, that I’m quite thrilled with, and more games than I have time or room to go through in this post. Most are word games, though I do have a few hidden object demos and some Sudoku on there as well as a couple slot machine games. However, it wasn’t bought for games. It was bought to use as a digital notebook for my work. Once the new wears off, the games won’t be that big a deal to me anymore, and I can start focusing on it as a writing tool. I have yet to try out the dictation software on it, but that time is coming.
And with that, I think I’m going to wrap this post up. I’m sitting at an awkward angle which is killing my hips. I also need to take my morning meds, then perhaps a nap before the bus gets here. They’ve changed the bus route times, so it’ll be nearly 8am before it gets here. That gives me roughly and hour and a half of wait time. I’ll catch everyone on the flip side and will post updates on the health stuff as soon as I have something else to share. In truth, I have no idea what the doctors will say. At this point, I’m just guessing, but those do seem the most likely results to all of this. Only time will tell.
Take care and happy reading, writing.
